About
Founded by Tara Thadani in 2009, Tsura – meaning “first light” in Romani – is a contemporary jewellery line made for those who want to shine light on what sets them apart and find beauty and freedom in personal expression.
Tara’s Indian heritage, international education in Hong Kong, Singapore, the US and the UK and explorations across different countries, have shaped her passionate curiosity of other ways of life and being. It is this rich tapestry of diverse experiences that is intrinsic to her creativity and design that resonates with people all over the world.
Formally trained as an artist, Tara’s fascination with tribal and indigenous cultures, especially the tradition of adorning the body as an expression of identity, has influenced her work and ethos. For her, adornment is more than mere decoration. It is not only an art form that reflects design and craftsmanship, but worn to regale power, the symbolic passing of key moments in one’s life, the kinship to our land and ancestry and protection of our heritage and sense of self.
“The desire to adorn is a part of human nature. It’s inherent in all of us.”
Tsura weaves a similar tale of Tara’s rite of passage as distinctive jewellery collections, each one reminiscent of a milestone in her life – visions from her travels as Elemental that captured the lunar phases of a desert night sky in Jordan; her cultural lineage as Aranyani that was an homage to the Hindu goddess of the forest and the flora that dwells within; and an affinity with nature as Vertebrae that emulated the sinuous movements of the snake. What began as signature sterling silver statement pieces has since transformed into an introspective collection.
Illuminate the 18k gold line by Tsura was borne from her fascination with collecting small stones, charms and shells from travels abroad and even the day-to-day. As memento vivere, they are precious reminders of these lived experiences and thus, to live fully and meaningfully. The collection is a contemporary yet intimate take on the age-old power of talismans to enlighten us with the wisdom of our lineage and reconnect us with ourselves. Inspired by the iconography used in ancient cultures, the healing properties of stones and crystals and elements of the natural world, each piece serves as a unique symbol of energy and empowerment to the wearer and illuminates their individual spirit.
If our stories are the most personal form of expression, then Tsura jewellery is the medium for their symbolic power, with each piece beautifully and thoughtfully designed to define who we are, connect us with our past and endure through time.
“I share my personal story through my designs. However, the story does not end there, but continues to evolve when the pieces are worn by their new owners, as their own experiences and journeys become imprints on the jewellery.”
