The Zia Sun is the sacred symbol of the Zia People from New Mexico, U.S.A. and symbolises the circle of life. The number 4 is sacred to the Zia and is reflected in this symbol by the 4 groups of rays radiating from the sun that represent the 4 sacred obligations in development, which are, a strong body, a clear mind, a pure spirit and a devotion to the welfare of others. Each group of the rays has 4 rays, which symbolise:

` the 4 points on a compass (north, east, south, west)

` the 4 seasons (spring, summer, autumn, winter)

` the 4 times of day (morning, noon, evening, night)

` the 4 stages of life (childhood, youth, middle years, old age).
